The Way to Rainy Mountain

In The Way to Rainy Mountain by N. Scott Momaday, he distinctly weaves the strands of his grandmother and the Kiowa tribe through the scenery of the story. He explains the everyday life of what a Kiowa tribe member would go through and about the life of his grandmother, which is named Aho. How he wrote the story was very different than a lot of other stories. Saying that I really enjoyed the story, learning about the Kiowa tribe and what they believe is very different than how we nowadays perceive things. I thought the story was very good.
N. Scott Momaday weaves the strands together through the story because he talks about his grandmother Aho /!: how she remembers the ancient myths of the Kiwoa tribe, the history and the culture of them as well. Although the story was very interesting and showed a lot about the culture of the Kiwoa tribe it was very difficult to understand what was happening at certain places. I had no idea if I was reading about an ancient myth or reading about the grandmother.  There were some parts of the story where I could see a clear picture develop, it took some time to process it.  He talked a lot of the sceanry so we could try and have a clear image pictured in our brains, and for myself I did but it took forever to see what picture was developing in the first place. It just took to long to see what was happening.
Finally I did enjoy learning about the Kiwoa culture, traditions and myths that were presumed in the reading. N. Scott Momaday was very close to his grandmother and cared for her a lot. We can see this throughout the entire story that he dedicated to her. When he was sharing her stories, I could see that he was trying to get the picture across as clearly as he would of seen it. N. Scott Momaday looked up to his grandmother. The Kiowa’s history was very interesting to learn about and to see how hard they worked for certain things was very commendable to myself. The Kiowa tribe is a very determained group.

Was there ever a time where you created an explanation for something that you didn’t understand? Did you turn out to be correct? Why do people attempt to explain the unexplained?

There was a time where there was an explanation that I didn’t understand.  My cousins asked how Santa Claus ate all the milk and cookies. I told them that he was just really hungry and wanted a snack.  No, it didn’t turn out to be correct.  It wasn’t correct because Santa Claus didn’t actually eat the milk and cookies.  My aunts and uncles actually ate them.
